Hello Peeps, I've bin shufflin bout in the darkness fer a week or so .........thought it was time to say hello to you all & tell you how I camr to own my C240 Sport

.............................It's a long story so heres the "potted" version

I had a rangie Vogue SE fer the last 3 years.got fed up with it so bought a Volvo 960 turbo off a "Mate" of mine ...........had it a week ............GOD IT WAS RUBBISH!!!!!!........Then I found a cap full of yogurt where the Oil filler cap was supposed to be.........Had to get rid fast like ..........

So I drives it into a local garage & there on the forecourt is this C Class 240 Sport........No price just sittin there..........

So I says to the nice salesman " what the going rate fer that then"......."£2000" says he......." & I'll give yer £1600 fer the Volvo".......Well after I picked meself up off the floor I enquired further..........

C Class 240 Sport with 92K on the clock, full MBSH 2 owners from new 8 months Tax & 12 Months MOT

Needless to say I emptied the Volvo pretty damn sharpish ...........

Now I need yer help on a few minor niggles
1. Outside Temp readout is "Dark" ....it is workin but I can only see when the sun shines on the dash

2.couple of dash bulbs out (Left hand side near the engine temp gauge)

3. How in gods name do I check the Auto tranny fluid???

Ok Ok .......I just know yer gonna ask .........Why "The Hooded Claw".....I own & operate a web site fer MG cars ..when I set it up (with 3 mates) they called theirself "The Bully Brothers" ......So as the major owner I thought "The Hooded Claw" was apt !!!!!!.........Don't yer think????

me real names Keith............Talk soon guys

Keith j.

Hi & Welcome Keith. I know to check the tranny fluid you need to buy a dipstick ( The car wouldn't have come with one) do a search as there has been quite a few posts on this subject recently, same goes for the bulbs and lighting question.
How do you rate the MB after the Volvo?
Regards Geoff.:D

1. you may not have it fitted on the car as it was an extra.

3. you buy a dip stick from MB, the sealed for life box is no more and the fluid and filter should be changed at 60k miles.

Get the Auto transmission fluid changed, chances are that it has never been done as they supposedly never need changing, hower, WDM in Birmingham say that after 100k miles the transmission oil can look like sludge and will reduce the life of the Autobox by tens of thousands of miles. Anyway, it is not expensive to change - especially relative to the cost of a gearbox rebuild

My E280 does not have the temperature dial either

By the way, I am a former MGC owner - one day I will own another

Hope you enjoy the car

they do have bulbs

in the back of the display. Not that easy to change, but possible if you don't have fudge fingers. I have to do the same to our 124, but I do have fudge fingers. You'll need to be double jointed or get the dashboard pulling tools to get the instrument pod out.

welcome aboard.

This link should help with removing the cluster to get to the panel bulbs;http://202tech.mkosonen.com/howtos.html ;if you do this make sure to keep the ignition off to save activating the SRS light. Have a look at the section on hesitating wiper ,it will only take 10mins to service but could save a lot if grief and cash later.
Cheers,Geo.

The volly was a 940 Turbo so you'd be driving along nice & sedatly enjoying a Mayfair kingsize & looking at the local "Talent" & Aye caramba!!!! the turbo would kick in & off you'd shoot (Sorry no pun intended) .........it was Bl***y awful mate
Another thing I really hated bout it was the god damned wind you got thru the window just open it a fraction (to let out the smoke) & by the time I'd gone 20 feet I looked like Ken Dodd in a hurricane!!!!

I wouldn't have another Volly if you gave it me utter crap TBH I now find meself thinking of places "I NEED TO GO" in the Merc ..........with the Volly I was glad to get out of it & watch Coronation St !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
