Is the bonnet switch working correctly?
I think some wash/wipes are disabled if the bonnet is open, others will confirm or let me know if I just made it up.

Not the same car but when I got mine I found I wasn't pressing the stalk hard enough! DOH!

Hi John, and welcome :)

Despite what I might heard ;) my knowledge of A-class is mostly superficial - some mods, and rectifying a few problems I came across personally ... Since it's a single pump for the front and rear, you were given a wrong advice to replace it, as you already know.

It does indeed sound like a wiper stalk fault. One question - do you get front washer working on second press position, when the front wipers selector is on AUTO or II or III, etc?

I take it wipers work on I II III positions, right?

It's also possible that, there's a blockage in front washer line, however that wouldn't explain wipers not working on single wipe (unless there's a feedback via SAM - I need to check wipers actuation diagram).

I swopped the 2 tubes on the pump black to blue.
Both front washers will work now when rear switch is actviated,so no blockage in front lines.
Wipers working on 1 11 and 11 positions.
It's appears that the pump should change direction for rear/front wash.
All actions on the stalk operates as should except the push bottom for front wipe wash where nothing happens, even by using force to push it.

I just notice, I wrote "what I might heard" instead of "what you might heard" ... Freudian mistake or what? :)

Anyway, it does look like the stalk is at fault, in particular the push button function, as you get nothing on first stop (single wipe) and nothing on second stop (wash and a couple of wipes).

Do you even feel the first stop?

If not, that could be the best clue - I've seen a window switch, where something was definitely not right with one of the buttons - it would only go to the first stop (or the second, by-passing the first - not sure). I promptly return it for a refund, but your problem just reminded me of it: if something is broken inside the push button, it might not be touching the right contacts, etc.

If you're anywhere near Northampton, I can put your car on scanner, to see if there are any error codes, etc?

Highly unlikely to be anything David. Star could probably operate the motor independent of the switch or look at the switch outputs to see if it's changing state.

I think the first pressure point is the key - if it's not registering, then it's definitely the combination stalk.

I can see plenty on eBay, from under £15 to just over £100 for a brand new one.

Shouldn't take longer than half an hour to swap?
