When I listen the the radio in my C240 it pops and bangs like a firework display. The station doesn't fade in and out I just get loud pops. They'll go away for a while and then come back. There seems to be no connection to engine speed or the use of any other electical items. The CD player is fine (single CD). I'm curious to know if all MB radio's do this or if it's just mine. I guess having no extenral aerial may mean the reception can be a little suspect in some areas but my Audi had no external aerial either and the radio worked fine.

This includes the BBC stations btw (except Radio 1 - where I couldn't tell the difference between the pops and bangs and the "music").

It sounds like a bad antenna connection somewhere along the line. I find the rear window Ae works very well, my radio sounds fine.
The boot Ae. used to be the one place to spot rust, they moved the Ae to the rear window, then the rest of the car started rusting...

If your aerial is built into the rear screen, it will have a booster amp. if you unplug the aerial from the back of the unit and the cracle stops then its probably demister on the rear screen faulty, one cure is to disconnect the plug on the window and join it up to a 15volt supply and leave it on for 20 mins or you could just turn the demister on for 20 mins. The aerial booster could be faulty. let me know.
