Hi. I have a 2008 Mercedes CLS 320 CDI Coupe. After a service some time ago I found myself getting this message whenever I press and hold the brake paddle.

‘HOLD inoperative - See Owner's Manual’

I know I don’t have autohold so I don’t understand why the system even thinks that it should warn me. It’s really annoying. Is there any setting that will turn this message off? Thanks

Hello and welcome,

Brake Hold was a standard feature - so you've a fault in the system somewhere - best getting the codes read (by a Mercedes specific reader) and going from there

Like above, it is usually problem in gear selector.

i have the same problem with my cls 320 2007, today i went home to drop off the groceries, somehow the battery died for no reason, even the locks of the car did not work, i still dont know what happened, shortage of some sort, anyways, after like 10 minutes i come back everything went back to normal. and after that shortage my autohold brake went out, so i was wondering, what has caused the problem? because i had an problem with pneumatic, the wires got damaged from aging and needed rewiring, could it be the same thing? or did the shortage do something to the vehicle so it needs an reprogramming of some sort? all of the questions above and the main question, will this check cause me to more serious problems? like my brakes totally dissapearing in the near future? thank you. :)

Is there any way to disable this hold feature?

Very annoying pointless gimmick like almost most features.

Wow , I think the brake hold is one of the most fantastic things ever invented . I use it constantly.

I totally get why people will like it, even more so in a manual but, for me if I’m stopped at lights, I put the auto box in neutral, always have, if I’m parked, it’s in park, if I’m on a hill I like full control so brakes or gas.

For me personally, hold is just one less thing I’d like.

just don't press the brake pedal as hard & it won't kick in!

The standard autos work very well on hills, hill starts etc. had this brake hood m’larky on the disAstra, so I can see why many like it but for me it was just another item getting in the way of actually driving.

I activate mine unintentionally when I’m driving lots of different vehicles in a week. If I drive just one or two then I’m ok.

When one activates it unintentionally and then you release it. Personally, it’s a feature I don’t like but can see why many like it.
