also what parts are needed many thanks

I will try and find the details of where the AUX has to be wired directly into the radio on the Audio 20

What you need:

- Silent CD (A CD with tracks on it but with no sound, google it)
- An Audio cable (normally with 3 thin cables within) with a 3.5mm plug
- more or less fine soldering skills

First you have to remove the Head Unit and open the top case (that silver one).
There are two spots on the PCB of the Audio 20 Head Unit which are responsible for the sound coming from the CD.

You need to solder two wires (left/right) to those points and the third one somewhere as a ground.
Make sure you lead the cable through one on the holes at the back before you solder it. After soldering connect the cables back to the Unit and test it.
To test, put in the Silent CD, switch to CD player, connect ipod and play the music.

Let me know if you need more details. Unfortunately I didn't take photos when I did it, the only evidence I can send you is the lead which is coming out my ashtray or a short video to proof that it is working.

I was very sceptical myself when I first heard of this, but it works like a charm and saved me hundreds of pounds. "Specialists" tried to sell me something similar with a seperate module or something like a FM Transmitter....glad I found the cable soldering solution ^^

Did this work around tonight and worked a treat thanks

The only thing that happened was the black screw for the pocket above the ashtray dropped into the shifter. Initially couldn't get the gear into drive but after some skaking it's now workin ok.

The only thing is the shifter will not lock in park when key is removed?? Would the screw be stuck on the manual changer??

Glad it worked for you. Maybe try to fish it out with an magnet or a screwdriver with magnet head?

Experiencing the same, but it was recommended and instructed everywhere else, so there might be a reason for it. Since I modded this, there has been nothing else than the Silent CD in the player, my nexus tablet does the music part now.

Very good do u have a bracket for ur tablet?? How does it look in the car??

I have a spare 8gb ipod which I might put music on and leave in the car. I gave my lead in the wee pocket where a cup holder should be.

Do you know how this works if you have a 6 CD Changer in the glovebox?
Same procedure?

I need to be sure!

Yes it must work, all it means is you have the 2 inputs in parallel and you would only be using one or the other, the same as a mixing console.

Hi Malcolm.

Thanks for the reply.
Do you have any info backing up that it should work?

The reason I ask is because on german forums ppl say the circuits are different if you have CDC in glove box or not, on the audio 20 unit.

Can ANYBODY tell wether they have succeded in soldering AUX on a Audio 20 with CD changer?

The point where it is soldered in is analogue, all at 775mv or 0db, you can parallel with no problems

OK!

do you know which point I should solder to, if the circuit looks different than in the online videos and pictures? i.e. how should I find the soldering points, and which is left / right?

Maybe you have some docs which are helpful? Wiring diagram?

Thanks Malcolm

No diagrams on this at all,, you should be able to plug the radio back in with the case off and touch either connection while holding a small metal screw driver and you should hear what side it is by the buzzing sound as you touch them.

Sorry to jump in without reading the entire thread but auxiliary input CAN be added to the audio 20. I added it to my own by soldering a lead directly into the single CD input circuitry. My car also has the CDC multi changer but the input leads need to be soldered directly to the single CD circuit board within the Audio 20.

One has to then burn an audio track to a CD that is comprised entirely of silence!!

One then places the CD into the single CD slot and selects "PLAY". This enables/selects the single CD audio circuitry and feeds your paralleled signal to the amplifier circuitry.

Job done!

There are numerous photographs to be found online, and on this site, showing exactly where to solder the input wires to the Audio 20 circuit board. Take my word for it. It works!

Cheers.

No aux input

If you want to connect an Ipod, I have found the DICE-style system excellent. There is one from connect2 that goes between the FM aerial and the unit and you tune to between 88.0 and 88.8. It also charges the Ipod as well. Audiovox do the DICE one which also puts the track info on the RDS display. For generality, I would look at connect2. I haven't tried this but the original DICE system was the DBs.

The question is will it work with an audio 20 with CD changer. Circuits are different, that much I know.

I will have to try it out I guess, since NOBODY seem to have done it.

Best bet is to take the Audio20 Headunit out, open the case and check if the solderingpoints are there. Are you actually talking about the W211? If yes, isn't the CDC in the compartment under the Headunit rather in the glovebox?
