Hi Everyone,

Got a problem at the moment with the w203, when it's warmed up it starts to hunt/surge while driving at a constant speed with light throttle. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem?

Also when cold and when the gearbox is 'C' it quite harshly changes from 2nd to 3rd. Don't know if this could be related as well.

Thanks

May be an issue with low transmission fluid, other than that it may be a torque converter problem. You can buy a dipstick from eBay, the dip tube is at the rear left of the engine bay, usually with a red plastic cap over it.

Good luck

Irregular RPM on the transmission is usually the torque convertor.

And as stated already stated above check fluid level.

Cheers guys. Had the fluid check today and it's ok. So looks like I'm going to have to price up a new torque converter then.

I fitted a new speed sensor plate to my 97 e300td, symptoms were
Rough gearchanges esp 2-1 ( 5mph in traffic /thumping into gear.
Up changes under full throttle would need me to release throttle off a bit to get it to change up.
Jumping back and forth between 3-4 under hard throttle.
And the bit that may be relevant to your situation is that with engine idling and W mode selected on gearbox the engine would hunt up and down, but only on idle and this stopped after sensor plate was changed.

The clue is:
"when it's warmed up it starts to hunt/surge while driving at a constant speed with light throttle"

Its usually @ 1250 rpm you can see the rev counter going up and down on slow cruise.
