Insurance on a 124

As per my previous thread I've just bought a 1993 W124 E220 petrol Mercedes and to my surprise the insurance quotes are more than the cost of the vehicle.

The latest quotes now range from £800 to £2550 (Tesco).

My previous car was a W210 Cdi 2001 with insurance of £460 for renewal last week.

Can't help you on that - but perhaps you should try a classic / specialist insurer?

That's very odd unless you're 18 or did something evil in a previous (insurance) life. I pay around £100 on a S124, but limited to 1500 miles, and £290 odd on a S211 with unlimited European miles, both fully comp of course. Try LV for higher mileages or Peter Best for classic insurance. I always choose the highest possible excess and lowest premium since the insurers prefer not to pay out under any circs if they can possibly avoid it.

I have the same vehicle, had it 3 years and started with no NCB, it's been £400 to £300 ever since (regardless of NCB increasing). I'm 29 and never made a claim or speeding offence though.

I went for Chris Knott as suggested by Malcolm.

It came to £650 for comprehensive.

I'm 47 and do not have any convictions. I'm more surprised that my previous car up until last week ( W210 2001)was £460 and the same insurer with the same personal details wanted £1049.

They said it was to do with my location but it's the same place as where i keot my other car.

That's what surprised me about it.

I asked them if there is new information about me has been added to my file in the past 7 days.

So I've gone from a 2001 E320 CDI at £460 fully comp renewal to £700 fully comp on a 2000 E320 petrol.

I wonder if it's possible to find out the information they hold about me in the insurance data base.

Just insured a Lexus 450h with LV. Fully comp for me and Mrs W inc European Cover............................................£194 !

My wife and I are with Lancaster, as promoted on here,for the 124 coupé £147.50 comprehensive for the two of us driving, wife being policy holder, the 129 is with Lloyds bank, same cover but myself as policy holder £190 and some change and they were not the cheapest! max ncb

But neither of us are teenagers anymore:lol: so I guess we are deemed as low risk.
