Young guy in Mercedes = Drug Dealer, or thats the stereotype. Put some cushions in the back window and wear a trilby and you should be ok. :D

That'll do it Doyle, dress like that and the police will never pull you over again. They'll be too busy laughing.........:D

btw, I think you're fairly unlucky seeing seeing ANY police. They've been replaced 100% in west sussex by speed camera's. Haven't seen a marked police car in months.

What's wrong with facial hair Lyn ,we have to do something to stop bits falling off due to frostbite up here in the Frozen Northern Colonies of England.

My brother has got a 97 W210 E320 and he is 23, he's had it since he was 20 and (touch wood) has never been stopped. If you haven't got anything to be worried about just forget about it, and I know it's a pain being stopped but to be honest with you it's very rare to see someone being pulled over for a random check nowadays it's all about speeding.

It's just you. We have a merc and a clio in our household and neither of us has ever been pulled over by the police in either of them.

In fact, I haven't been pulled over for a little police chat since I was in my early 20s, so I think it's that. It may be not so much the age of your merc, but its insurance group that makes it unusual for such a young driver.

What I have noticed since buying the cabriolet is that every time I see a police car, they're having a good look at me and/or my car; the C-class never got a second look.

If you sold the car, you could get a face lift with the money = problem solved

The Police round my way are all around Heathrow keeping our airports safe, sometimes I don't see a police car for four or five days. Unfortunately at your age that's something you're going have to live with, up to the age of 23 I was getting stopped every other week (Pug 106 Gti), since then (touch wood) I haven't.

Doyle, a friend of mine used to get stopped about every 500 yards and in the end he and his dad went to the local Police station and complained and he hardly ever got pulled over since then.

If it's a real problem I think it's worth going to the local plod shop and see what they say. perhaps take all you cars documentation with you to prove that the car is completely legal.

A friend of mine had the same sort of experience last year, her 20 year old son was stopped three times in one week, at this time he had started carrying all his documentation as being stopped was becoming a regular thing, after the third time she visited the local police station with her son and expressed her displeasure which was duly recorded by the poor officer who happened to be on the desk at the time,(this is one formidable woman and they were giving her innocent boy a hard time).
They received a nice letter from the local inspector detailing why young drivers were being stopped and the lad has not been stopped since although many of his friends have.
So if I was you, as suggested, I would visit the local police station, whether you take your mother or not is up to you. :)

Until someone breaks into it and has all your docs as well as car!!!

I used to have the same problem with my first car rover 216Se I was 18 and my auntie had been keeping it for her son and sold it to me cheep as she couldnt insure it for him as too dear ( I payed the 1200 pounds).
Pulled over every ****** week got on first name terms with most of the traffic in my area. "is this your car son...etc)
Then I bought a clio williams even more bother same with Pug gti6 and puma and even the Jaguar Ive just got rid of (I look younger than my 33 yrs though).
Only had the new SLK since june and not been pulled at all (maybe they think I am a footy player or something) or a hairdresser as my mates say.
I was pulled more often in the older cars that didnt cost that much but never in the >30k Slk (YET) so no rhyme or reason except for scottish traffic cops(watch between balloch and clydebank been there every day for past 2 weeks even pulled a bus drive yesterday for speeding)

Couldn't pull me in the 206cc as it was always in the garage

I agree with you Doyle, I've been pulled over 7 or 8 times in the 4 years I've had my 350SL - even though it's very old and not worth half as much as a modern saloon/coupe. Admittedly, a couple of times were for speeding, and one was to politely inform me that my number plates were illegal (what can I say, they look much better than the yellow and whites on a car this old!), but at least 4 times have just been to check me and the car over (annoyingly). It's happening less frequently the older I get, but I'm not quite at 'trilby time' yet!

So who's the guy with the trilby? Looks kind of familiar! Looks like a cross between Kid Creole (Kid Creole & The Coconuts), and Willy De Ville (Mink De Ville), which you probably never heard of Doyle, (due to your tender years!).
