My car insurance for last year ended on 4th November at midnight so when i searched for quotes i put the start date as 5th November, Admiral was the best price so i purchased this years insurance with them to start on 5th November but according to ASKMID today my car is not insured! When i look at the Admiral certificate they have the start as 00:00 on 5th November which is actually tonight at midnight so all of today i have not had any insurance! Thats madness, if i say i want the start date to be the 5th i expect it to be from 00:01 on the 5th not 00:00 which is less than 1 minute before the 6th. Is it me!

I don't think it is midnight [on the 5th], as that would have been 2400 hours. I'd interpret 00,00 hours [on the 5th] as being the commencement of that day.

Databases do take a time to catch up, especially of a weekend.

I see an inconsistency, the Admiral insurance starts on 5th Nov 2017 at 00:00 and expires on 5th Nov 2018 at 00:00 but my RAC insurance on my ML states start 25th June 2017 at 00:00 and expires on 24th June 2018 at 00:59. I think insurance companies should use the same date fornat to avoid confusion.

I've never looked closely at the timings before but i was surprised that ASKMID said my car was not insured.

Like you, if I say on the 5th November, I expect to be insured on the 5th not the start on the 6th!

Give ‘em a rocket! (5th Nov);)
Sorry...

See Ken’s post he’s correct, 2400 is midnight, 0000 is the moment past 2400, therefore 0001 is the first minute of the new day.

Don't think there is anything to worry about. Its simply a question of the info not yet reaching the database. I know several people who have been stopped by blue boys because of "no insurance", only because the database has not been updated. Ms peterws1957 got stopped driving home a car purchased on that day for the same reason, even though the insurance had commenced several days earlier. Annoying but that's the system.
