Is this cover on the underside of the bonnet of my SLK missing? Or did it never exist?

Hi, I've just noticed that it looks as if a protective cover on the underside of the bonnet of my 2007 SLK 280 has been removed. See picture below. The cover under the bonnet 'vent' on the right as you view the photo is in place but there is no cover on the left hand side. And it looks as though there are screw holes for it on the right.

Has it been removed? Or was it never there in the first place? All help welcome. Thanks in advance

Nope, that’s correct, rainwater drain.

Weird design from Mercedes.
I thought the same when i bought my SLK.

Is that not the air intake for the heater?
