Hi all

I've what appears to be a typical filler neck/tank leak on a '91 200TE. Repaired it with sealant but sadly after a year the leak has returned. I saw on some previous threads that some folk did have ones for sale. Anyone still got one ? Don't mind driving a bit to get it.

Thanks

Jack

I can see little point in buying a secondhand tank as many are failing right now with the same fault.

I have done many in the past very satisfactory by cleaning an area around the pipe and tank so the you have a bright metal ring around both then solder it with lead using plenty of flux. If you tin the area all over first you can then build it up. to do this you do need to get the tank hot enough to stop the solder from going on dry, it must flow freely and bright and can only be done with a plumbers gas blow torch, by filling the tank to almost full with water ,there is no danger in doing this, the water must not be up to the top of the metal otherwise it will take all of the heat out of the top of the tank and it will be dry and of no use.

In retrospect, that's what I should have done. Lazyness prevails as always, and I didn't have to take the tank off to do what I did. Sadly I fear that the nasty gunky glue I put on has put this tank beyond sensible repair...

I really want to keep the old bus going until I find a W124 300 diesel.
