Dave what was price for cleaning the injectors ?.If its not to much to ask .. I need to do this job .The parts ,seals and holders plus o rings are sitting in a box in my garage ,.I dont experience any problems but they are as old as the car at 28 years old, so i think its time for them to come out .

Had the injectors tested and cleaned. Very professional service given by Mr Injector. During conversation with Steven Biggs he reported that the injectors were not leaking ( dribbling ). Given spec sheet on before and after testing. Refitted injectors with new MB seals and guides. Took for MOT ( passed ) but embarrassingly reluctant to start afterwards. Back to the drawing board. :(:(

Maybe it's not a fuel problem. I've had 2 hot start issues.

One was cured by ensuring ALL HT components were in 100% top condition with NO cheapo aftermarket parts. The faulty item was a Bremi distributor rotor arm. This was proved by replacing it with the original 17 year old rotor arm. Subsequently installed a brand new MB one and have never looked back.

Aside from the second hard hot start issue. This was not so much hard start as a couple of seconds of churning before it would fire up, followed by some mis-firing for a few minutes after moving off. The solution? Brand new injectors, guides and seals. It was a bit costly at €500 but a most satisfying job. Absolute smoothness under all conditions.

Good luck with yours.

Yes have considered it could be an ignition fault and I am still bearing that in mind. All parts are original and just over 16,000 miles use but obviously at 36years old could be faulty.

your second paragraph described my fault almost precisely except after giving it some throttle the misfiring clears. Hence the reason I had the injectors checked. other wise the engine is very responsive and lively.

Accumulator (1).JPG Fuel accumulator diaphragm was leaking. Ordered new replacement 10 days ago from the USA Bosch P/No.0438170017 £121.28 .. Arrived today. Same part from Mercedes but without their branding £437 ?????

I tested my original and the diaphragm was leaking by so we will see if this will cure the fault .... will update later.

Fitted the accumulator today with the return pipe disconnected. With the ignition on or with the engine running there was no leakage from return pipe to pulsation damper. RESULT.:):) Got engine to operating temp ( bearing in mind she is on axle stands in garage and therefore can't road test ). Switch off for 15mins. Restarted and no misfiring. Repeated this procedure about 15 times and the engine started ( sometimes with slight hesitation ) every time with out the misfiring/lumpiness.

hope this helps somebody

Fuel pump (1).JPG

Bottom item of the three .... please note this picture is upside down but the accumulator has the small return tube which allows fuel to return back to the tank via the pulsation damper should the diaphragm in the accumulator fail/leak.

Please note...... If you are going to conduct the leakage test of the accumulator you will have to clamp the small pipe that is connected to the pulsation damper before you disconnect it or else you will drain your fuel tank. I found it best to clamp the rubber pipe and disconnect from the accumulator. I also clamped the supply to the pump when I removed the accumulator.
