Hey guys been a while,
I’m helping my sister choose a car and we’ve found a really nice one she likes and it seems to check out!
She lives in Bristol which is soon to become a clean emissions zone but she’s really worried about it not being euro 6 but I’ve checked the gov website and it says no charge for all areas!
Does anyone who lives in London or in one of these soon to be clean emissions area know if this car will be okay for this clean emissions thing!

The reg is: EA63 FUH

Here the link below!

Thanks!

It will be Euro 6 - however why you’d want to buy a OM651 with >100k miles on is another question entirely

Not familiar with modern 4cyl diesels, are they bad?

The OM651 has a few “features“… please have a search and read on here as well google. Worth going in with eyes open.

I’ve read about the timing gear being one of the things to watch out for, and for excessive rattling, I’ll have a look on google! Thanks

If it has an adblue tank in the spare wheel well it's definitely Euro6.
A 63 plate should be ok but if it's a 2012 spec car that 'sat around' for a bit then it could be Euro5.
Get the VIn and do a look up.

Does she really need a diesel how will the car be used and what is the expected annual mileage a petrol car may be the way to go?

If it's a 220cdi it's euro 5 , if it 220d it's euro6 (normally from 2015 onwards).

That was my take on the issue as far as I’m aware all Mercedes ‘Cdi‘ versions of diesel engines are EU5 and the
‘d’ suffix denotes EU6

My view is that due to the added complexity Adblue brings to Diesel engines I’ve bought my last diesel and will only buy petrol from now on

She’s doing a bit more driving to and from airports now for her job which is a fair bit of millage so I estimate it’s going to be around 7-8k miles per year. Not a lot for a diesel but efficiency wise it makes more sense and remember tax is also £130 per year less Than a petrol

There has been one or two ULEZ issues on the forum regarding what qualifies and what doesn’t for free entry. The rub is that we don’t know what TfL are using data wise for reference are they using 2013 as a cut off and declaring all diesels first registered March 13 as EU6….who knows

It is an interesting issue - when I checked yesterday on some sites it's a Euro 6 - although today on HPI Checked it's a 5...

I also wasn’t sure weather it goes of model year as opposed to what engine it had so automatically assuming any car with a build date of 2013 with a 63 reg is automatically euro 5!

Still not enough, the "cut off" point for Diesel is 12k+

Mercedes made some OM651 Euro 6 compliant from 2010 - the sure way is checking the Certificate of conformity sheet for the actual vehicle
