Hello everyone!

My name is Taz and I have just inherited my parents old car, a Mercedes Estate. So far Ive change the gear box out myself and also the boots struts...so im somewhat handy.

However the car is being a bit temperamental in a couple of other areas and I would love to learn how to bring her back to tip-top shape under the guidance of someone who knows this model really well!

A few simple things need doing like switching out one of the headlights alongside more more complex issues... the electronics sometimes go a bit funky.

I live in Lymm, Cheshire but if anyone out there has some time, Id love to meet up (im happy to travel further afield) and gain your wisdom!

I really love the process of learning, so I definitely would like to complete these jobs myself but having some guidance would make that process a lot easier and more fun with some good banter! Im very sociable and easy to get along with, so hopefully somebody is up for a mechanical meet up!

Kind regards,

Taz

If you have a particular W211 car problem and I can help , I will do what I can .
Thank you for your reply...one of the main issues at the moment seems to be electrical...the radio doesnt always work (minor issue), or the phone charging port (cigarette port) spontaneously doesnt work and then works again. But the biggest issue is sometimes the battery dies even though the charge is full. This means I get locked out the car and had to jump the car from the front to turn electrics on, which allows me to open doors and then jump the car from the back to get it running. Once I didnt even jump the car at the back...i just put the leads on and it seemed to get the car working again...all very weird, maybe seems electric but not sure?!?

Small point, but yours is an S211, being an estate.

V useful when people want to offer help is to know the age of the motor, there were some significant changes in 2006, with the facelift 211.

They came with a variety of engines, so that's the next bit of useful info.

If you are having battery issues there are many issues that can come from that. Many modules will 'fall over' at differing lower voltages.
Can you be sure the battery is healthy? If so you might be looking for a module not going to sleep as it should, and continuing to discharge, when it shouldn't.
1st you need be confident of a good battery. Or you might leave the car on a trickle charge continually, to see how equipment holds up with a known good voltage.

If you haven't already you'll likely find a reasonable diagnostic a great advantage as you delve into kit.
Star / DAB is best, but expensive.
Many rave over the iCarsoft, V2 or Pro.
I find a v reasonable and v economical start is Torque (free for freebie, a couple of quids for the Pro) downloaded to an Android. That'll need an EML327 bluetooth device into the OBD port (bout a £5er).

and I'm doing the brake pipes at the mo, c/w brake hoses as you would never split them.

It's nearly funny really, the rr o/s brake pipe sprung a leak a while back. Snow, rain, other priorities it finally got done. But I couldn't pressure up the brakes. The pool of fresh brake fluid by the fr o/s wheel gave a clue as to why.
So all corners are getting done, eventually. The front brake pipes sent are the wrong one's, so there's another delay.

Your earlier 211 will most likely have the SBC, I'm glad ours doesn't.
