I would doubt if anyone will hold their hands up and admit they almost wiped you out. Much better just to sort the problem, make sure everything is ok, and hope you will go away happy.

I feel a bit sad/disappointed that you are all so cynical about this issue being taken seriously by Mercedes - do they really not give a s**t that we nearly wiped out twice in a high range car which is still under manufacturers warranty- if I had pride in my product - and I hope the top brass at Mercedes do - they must want to say this was unacceptable !

Not me I think its appalling.
Most of us who have been around machines of some sort know they can fail at any time.
The no warning part is what suprises me and perhaps a few others.

You must remember that what ever mercedes say, it could be used against them in a law court, so perhaps no one will come clean.

My good friend who has been battling with mercedes in Germany for over 12 months, just trying to get an answer to an on going problem had a reply last week with a cheque for £250, he has sent it back saying he wants an answer and not money.

I realize that, but surely they dont want to force people to sue them - we didnt take too much issue with them the first time the wheel came off because we are reasonable and realize that as Frontstep says even the best machines go wrong sometimes - however they are insured against this sort of thing and in my work if something goes wrong error/accident I explain the situation apologize and rectify - and I dont have a massive global machine behind me - you have to be able to take responsebility sometimes otherwise we have no right to warranty our products !

...but surely they dont want to force people to sue them...

That appears to be exactly their plan on a lot of customer issues. Occasionally, as frontstep can attest, this plan of action backfires on them. But by and large they adopt the approach that they have bottomless pockets and what are you going to do?

Let's just say that they're not exactly as conscientious as, say, Toyota...

They just can't make their cars watertight! The water leaks in their Aygo are a disgrace and if you're out of warranty you are on your own for £750 worth of repairs.

MB UK are atrocious they don't like apologising and will literally invent scenario's to deflect responsibilty.
Sue them if you like they really don't care they can afford it.
I suspect some callow yoof is already composing an e-mail worthy of a Yes Minister sketch to you.
