Hi,

My Merc's service is due at the end of the month, its a 64 plate - this time i have to pay for it.

Any ideas, tips and suggestions? I have got a quote from Merc' Call Centre in glasgow which nearly froze my bollox off when i got the email from her. >.< Abs' f* extorniate prices.

Anyways, looking forward to seeing what you folks have to say.

I took out a 3 year service plan on a discounted deal at the time, £41 ish a month, I’ve had an A service so far, B2 due September which is a biggy including ATF change etc
Bear in mind my car the service costs are relatively high.
I think I’ll just about break even over 3 services.
Now if you’re due a B first then A then B you’ve got a better return
For me the set monthly suits but it’s not for everyone, most prefer to use an Indy where labour costs less than half main dealer and just save up or put aside.
My car is a 64 plate originally too
Do your sums, find an Indy to estimate your 3 year then compare with the service plan and make your choice

Deals do come round, I am paying £28 a month on a 2 year deal, they rang me.
JL has summed it up. if your next service is an A service I would pay for it, then wait on a deal.
Otherwise have a look for a good Indy.

I took out a 3 year service plan at Christmas when there was a £150 discount.

Had my first one under the contract towards end of April it was a ‘B’ service.

My car is a S212 E350 Bluetec and the plan is costing me £30.83 per month, seems like a reasonable deal to me, so I will get a B-A-B services.

for me it was worth it because the ATF was due and included in the service plan so i got two services for the price of one, it made it break even with an Indie so i decided to opt for the main dealer and i could spread the payments over a year. its never been worth it to me before that ATF service was due

Took out a four year contract on purchase of 3 year old/14,000 mile car. Expensive but reckon I will save cost of small service plus ATF change at least. Wanted reassurance of main dealer as new to MB; luckily it is a reasonable dealer. My plan at the end of the 4 years will be to switch to using an independent Merc specialist using recommendations from here etc.

I pay £35 per month for my E350, on a 2 year plan.
My fuel filter is due at the next service, and ATF on the following.
So I think it's a pretty good deal.

Are you planning using any of the Glasgow dealerships ?

If so avoid the Giffnock one as they are woeful and one of the reasons i got rid of my CLS a few days ago , long story.

If you are in the Glasgow area then there is a MB / Audi / BM independent opened up in the Govan area that seems to be building a good reputation.

This is the place here Jim: http://www.prestigecarspecialists.com/

One of the chaps in work took his C estate to them for servicing as he had a bad experience with the MB garage on Milton St in the town and i had even worse treatment from Giffnock.

I will be using them for the BM when it tells me it needs a service.

FWIW I used these guys last time I was in Glasgow

http://www.deutschtek.co.uk

Swapped out a duff thermostat at short notice when no other indie up there could fit the work in.

They spent time with me to give me an idea of what the work involved and made sure I was happy with that before beginning the work ...

Decent price too... I’d use them again for sure ...

Fair amount of German cars getting work done whilst I was there ... Use bmw, Porsche , VW as well as more Merc’s ..

I paid for the first one. Then went on the plan as I appear to get more for the same price with the way the services work.

I have a 3 year plan at £35 per month.
Although it is expensive The main reasons I decided to take the plan out was it is easier to pay £35 per month than find total cost each service,it make selling vehicle easier to sell with MB service history, and I also get Mobilo all over Europe although I have not needed to use the breakdown cover yet so don’t know how good or bad it is.
