I am am amazed but not altogether suprised that there are people out there that will treat a modern vehicle in such a way. Almost every part of every vehicle is controled by electrics, even in a van there is ESP and a multitude of other systems hidden away.

If this were me I would be straight on the phone to the valeters and warn them that if this turns out to be expensive damage caused by them then I will be taking them to the cleaners!

All is not yet lost. There are 2 fuse panels in the sprinter, 1 on the underside of the steering column and the 2nd in the side of the drivers seatbox and I think most of the fuses and relays for optional equipment (like sprintshift) are located in the seatbox.

I would initially disconect the battery to prevent any further damage then start to uncover the seatbox electrics to see how much water ingress had occurred. Remove the fuses from the fuse panel (after making a note of exactly where they came from) and allow panel to completely dry. test fuses as you remove them to see which if any circuits may have been shorted. I believe there is also a relay in the same area that controls the gearbox hydraulic pump. this should also be checked/dried, In fact, I would remove any removable component that may have been in the line of fire. It may help things like relays to dry if you can take them indoors overnight and putthem somewhere warm. In the past I have sucessfully resurected radios from my Landrover that have been submerged in muddy water by removing the casing and flushing with clean tap water then drying on top of a radiator for a day
or two.

Before checking these, check the passenger side footwell ECU is located up under the glove box, check for damp on the plugs and all connections in that area. Also centre consul down below the gear shift wiring runs there.

If it ain't dried out and working by now then I think you will have to bite the bullet and hand it over to Merc or a good independant merc specialist that knows this gearbox (check as it is a bit of an odd-ball one).
