Smart + others :)
I'm out of this. Let us know when you fix it. My money is still on chain and tensioner for the reasons given in my previous posts.
Don't bother with injectors - you'll be throwing money away.

Good luck.
Ditto, the op asks for advise on here, chooses to ignore advise given and go with advise already given by generalist mechanic because the op doesn’t like what he hears ? Why ask for advise?

Surely it's a wind up from the very first post.

"Hi all ,

Was looking for some advice / guidance regarding the engine sound i hear on cold start every now and again not always on every cold start and only happens on cold start never warm starts on my w204 c200 cdi c class , 2012 , I hear this rattle sound it varies the exact sound , however i have uploaded it i have had timing chain checked it is fine and oil fliter replaced last year along with air fliter and fuel fliter , my machanic thought it might have been the engine cover not put on right bu this now does not seem to be the case..

any comments welcome. "

Engine cover , the 'so called' mechanic is a legend , then later it's injectors because he checked the timing chain at the front of the engine... oh... Please.. me sides, can't take anymore.

In the trade we assess the condition of the chain on these when doing an oil and filter change. In my experience a good one will barely sound chainy at all while the filter fills and oil pressure is reestablished. A bad one will tighten the scrotum of a time-served mechanic.

Ok, I appreciate there are some excellent female mechanics in the business, but you get my drift ;)

ditto, to the extent that i dont allow my engines to catch until oil light goes out following oil/filter change. it seems reassuring even tho a modern oil light going out dont really mean much pressure around, it does mean theres likely to be some.!
in this case i believe we have reached the point. if chain an issue, regrettably, he will soon be walking and broke, if not alls well.

I agree that it's a windup, but for me personally, some one who seem's to go through life "winding people up", is one sad and sick individual. The people on here are genuinely trying to help other's, and are a soft target for this kind of rubbish. Which says a lot about them, but paint's an entirely different picture of " Winder Upper's"

Don't think it's a windup. It feels genuine to me, but the OP is stubbornly sticking to the views of his own mechanic instead of seriously examining the unbiased advice given here.

Guess he's going to learn the expensive way.

One thing we must keep in mind, we can make only 'virtual diagnosis' based on (often) inadequate, false, modified, misleading or otherwise 2nd hand information. There we must give advices according propabilities and sometimes guess can be wrong. But even at car 'on hands' and 100% accurate info, whole 'diagnose chain' is based on propabilities too. First we check most common issue, then next etc.

Good luck for OP.

A lot of good advice given on here relative to the engine involved, if I owned a OM651 engine and intended on keeping it changing the timing chain and tensioner at 100k miles would be a given
