I'm planning to buy 4 new tyres for my SL500. I want the best tyres for the car, and then the best price for those tyres. Any advice welcome.

I ran my 500 on PS2's and they really suited the car, no experience of the 4s personally but I hear they're good....they will be on my list when I come to change alongside GY Assy 3...

Thanks Wighty, Camskills look competitive on price but don't list tyres in my size. ie.
Michelin Pilot Sport 255/45 ZR 17 98W

Thanks John. Whenever I read about best tyres for this car, the Michelin Pilot gets a good mention. I just need to find a supplier with stock and sensible pricing.

I find Michelin tyres to generally be a lot more expensive than comparable other makes, i.e. Goodyear, Pirreli, Continetal. Let us know if you find any at a good price.

Thank you flowrider, I'm sure you're right, but the Michelin keeps getting positive comments. There must be a reason.

I have Contintals 3's on mine and the first front set lasted 12 years, and am very impressed with the ride and handling. These are the only ones I have used and so cannot comment on others.

Thanks Dave, that's a good recommendation and Continental's are widely available.

Asda tyres are reasonable for a fully fitted price and if you know someone who works there they can get you 10% off if you ask them nicely

The problem is they are now on the SC6 so you are 3 generations out of date.

My tyre guy says the PS4 are a game changer and a significant improvement on the PSS. They also seem to get 9.5 accross the board on most recent reviews
But they are quite expensive. :-/
Sadly not released in my size yet for the rears ... likewise no GY Assy 3s :(

Not sure on what PS4's cost now, but when I was buying them for my car, the cost difference with other key brands such as Continental & Goodyear was up to approx. £20 per tyre. At prices from £100-200 per tyre, £20 isn't a deal breaker.

The only downside to the PS4 tyre is the soft side walls.

SC6 are only available for 19" rims and larger, so not sure if SC6 is truly the next generation or just a marketing facelift of the SC5...

Are they a significant improvement to the 5 then? If so, why would they only produce them from 19" upwards?

Not a clue, usually tyre manufacturers will only produce sizes for the next gen they are low on so the earlier ones sell first, this is why Sub cant get GY Assy 3 in a full matched set.

Must be indicated by demand, wheel sizes are getting bigger & bigger. Hope they have improved on the grip over the previous generations.

Yikes! Just checked the PS4 price for mine- £269 fronts and £279 rears. That was black circles mind so someone might be a bit cheaper. Looks like I'm sticking with GY when I change summers. Still pondering what winters to get first......

S class
The Michelin Pilot Sports are a fantastic tyre and will make a good car even better... I had them on a 535 BMW and never knew it to misbehave even on wet roads.
