Broken wires in the mirror housing is quite common (assuming yours fold in and out when you lock the car)

As above broken wires. Normally quite easy to get the mirror cover off (See your model on youtube), but all the wires are black so if more than one is broken it can get confusing. The ones on mine have tiny numbers along the insulation so you don't get them mixed up. Once they have got brittle this may happen again. Sometimes they are still intact, but the wire inside hs a break in it.

BUT do treat it gently when you take it apart - there are little internal plastic lugs that can break if you just look at them too hard! But if you persevere it will go back together okay. Alternatively the replacement heads you can find on FleaBay will fit okay but you can't get convex mirrors - only flat for some reason which is a bit of a PITA (but least they're pretty cheap). Also if you have self-dipping mirrors the cheap replacements don't self-dip although the wires are all there (or they were on the one I bought). Amazingly, I fixed my offside mirror when it fell off all on its own - by taking it apart, eventually giving up and reassembling it - and it still self-dips!

Used replacements (which you can usually find in the colour you want) work out pretty expensive (look at FleaBay) but it may be the most sensible choice in the end.
