hi there
i have a c200 which when you first starts up, if you press the accelarator the engine hardly revs up at all you can hear and feel the engine struggling to rev up plus also i can here backfiring now and again this carries on for about five minutes until the engine warms up, but even then if you accelerate to much you can feel a slight power loss. any info into what is causing this would be appreciated.

Here is a list of possible causes;

Plugs

Leads

Lead caps

Coils

Air mass.

A good diagnostic tester will be able to give some guidence in where the missfire is coming from.

quick way to find out possible cause,

disconnect the MAF sensor (check the diy section for POD's 'how to clean your maf' guide) and run the engine, if the problem goes away you need to clean your maf or get it replaced.

cheers

if a coil pack is failing two plugs out of 4 will be sooty, I bought a coil pack off ebay £30 thereabouts. Start with the coil pack first as its cheapish to sort, but also check all the plug leads are fixed tightly as a loose lead will cause a misfire.

thanks for all the advice removed maf sensor as anyweb advised the car started but didnt get past 1000 revs before stalling. Will take it to be 'diagnosed' and hopefully changing coil packs will cure the problem.

I know when I had my C200 it was the wiring loom that was giving symptons of other common faults. Not sure what year your C class is but this failed between 93 and 95 inclusive.
