Hi All,

I have an automatic, W reg ML320. (year 2000)
During driving 4 lights come on ABS/EST/handbrake and a light which looks like a circle in-between brackets. The Lights come on at random times, low speed, high speed, under braking and sitting idle. The car also go’s into limp home mode and will not change out of 1st gear. If i turn of the ignition and then turn it back on again, the car is fine (until the lights come back on again) seems to be better when the car is warmed up.

Took the car to Mercedes for a diagnostic and they believe the water bottle has leaked, water has dripped onto the modulator/computer control unit causing corrosion (apparently the unit is located directly below the water bottle). It dos look like there’s a leak coming from the water bottle however ive been quoted £2000 to replace water bottle and modulator/computer control unit.

My question is could the problem be something else? Or is there a cheaper fix?
its a fine line between fixing the car and writing it off

Phil

Really a specialist should give you a second opinion. It's usually the wiring that corrodes because of the leak, not the module
