Having just got my CLK, whilst sorting a few mechanical bits, I thought I’d like to update the stereo from a Sony single DIN single CD player to something I can link easily to a phone. After a bit of research decided on a Sony XAV-AX1000 with Apple CarPlay. Not the most expensive or top of the range thing in the world, but good reviews and simple.
Installing was straight forward. Cubby out, old single DIN out, carefully cut the plastic shelf between cubby and single DIN slot (slow with a hacksaw blade), and the new double DIN cage drops straight in.
Car harness is ISO but with a permanent live feed. I removed the gear shift trim to get to the ashtray screws, pulled and the ashtray to get to the lighter supply wire, and spliced a feed from there into the Sony supplied adapter harness. Re-assembled, and all works perfectly !!!
