Decided to post this up - as may be of some interest to members on here.

It's something i posted on another forum a few months back, have copied the wording from there but it's all my own words/work/photos. Dates back to mid September this year.

THREAD STARTS (21/09/08)

Well, not really a mystery tour as i knew where i was going!

Basically, every weekend morning, BabyB wakes me up very early and we usually end up going for a walk. Yesterday however, i took him for a 5 mile walk and mid-way round decided that today, we'd go somewhere in the car. He normally, when walking, has a bit of a giggle and a nosey around and then falls asleep for an hour or so. Plan was for him to do the same in the car.

So, today i set off - armed with a tiny bit of research that i did last night.

First stop, 35 mins from my house.

STOP NR 1

Strawberry Field, Beaconsfield Road, Woolton, L25 - as in 'The' Strawberry Fields and the possibly the most famous gates in the world??

STOP 2

About 2 mins from Strawberry Field, and a flying visit as it appeared to be somebody's house! 'Mendips', 251 Menlove Avenue L25, John Lennon's home from 1945 to 1963. Now owned by the National Trust, having been donated by Yoko Ono.

STOP NR 3

Sgt Peppers Bistro - now closed. Forms the centre piece of the junction between Smithdown Road and Penny Lane, L18.

Continued.....

STOP NR 5
About 5 mins from Arnold Grove, 20 Forthlin Road, L18.

Another NT property - as lived in by Paul McCartney as the beatles were formed.

Seemed quite a rough area to be honest.

Nr 9 is one of only 4 houses on the whole street not boarded up - the whole area of 'The Welsh streets' as they are called is earmarked for the bulldozers!

attachment.php

Next street to Madryn Street has all but one property not boarded up!

About 15 mins from the marina, quite a nice residential street

PIC

Would appear to be someones house now.

PIC

PIC

It was all new to me Malcolm too.

My Mum works at a museum locally and they had a book there called 'Liverpool - music city' - so i had a read and thought to myself that i'd try and do a whistlestop tour. Was a nice morning in terms of weather so went for it. The McCartney and Lennon houses are now NT owned and are regularly on the local news programmes - but the Harrison and Star houses are very rarely shown - possibly because one is lived in and the other is set for demolition!

Would recommend that little drive to anyone - was good fun.

Will put a map together if people want to have a go themselves.
