I done many road trips (like the poster above) in my pre kid days with my wife in my VW T25 westfalia, amongst them around N Scotland.

A very beutiful countryside different cf to the english countryside. Both great but different.

I still have my T25, I promised it to my son. He is 8 now.....

Keep telling wife id love to go to Scotland again and do a highland road trip, she never been, so beautiful up there, great hospitality too, maybe one time in near future we will do this, got the ideal motor to do it in

Pack a couple of bags, get her in the car and go. No excuses not to do something but an excuse itself!

An old B-Class.
Probably a little off-topic, but nonetheless.

I've done heaps of driving tours, some I organised myself for groups of pals and some I was a participant in an organised tour by a driving company (Petrolhead Tours if anyone is interested - great tours). So far I've done around Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Norway, Denmark all the Alps passes and I've lost count of the Scotland ones. My favourites are The Outer Hebrides & Orkney. The roads on Orkney are amazing, especially in the South of the island over the Churchill Barriers which are causeways built by Italian POW's to stop the German Subs getting through Scappa Flow. The Outer Herbrides are stunning, best scenery of anywhere I've been with glorious beaches and really fun and quiet roads. Great people too, proper islander highland hospitality. Calmac Ferries go from Uig on Skye to Tarbert in Harris and Pentland Ferries have the quick catemeran from just before John O Groats to Orkney.

Lewis & Harris worth 2 full days, ditto Orkney and Skye you could manage in a day (early start, late finish) and just link them with some of the west coast NC 500 roads and you'll have the best trip. My route for my next one is below then I sail to Shetland for 3 days / 2 nights, looking forward to it.

Looks awesome but still 50% of the NC500 and the negatives that implies.

Have to agree with the Orkney Isles. John O Groats, ferry to South Ronaldsy, drive up to Kirkwall over the Barriers, Highland Park distillery and others.

Ferry to Westray and spend an evening with the Puffins, amazing little things around this time of the year.

Accommodation is often a problem but one hotel and a few guest houses on Westray. A fair few in and around Kirkwall. Lovely place for nature, great beaches, nice people

Plan on doing this again, it’s just the Gosport to Perth bit that is not so good.
