Hi

I've a 2010 C220 CDI sports auto ( AMG wheels and body kit) with original Parktronic sensors. The front ones work really well BUT the rear ones only work on the close proximity "beep", the gradually increasing LED display doesn't operate in reverse!

I've only just had the car ( 1 week) and in that time I've fitted "Car Specific tow-bar electrics (13 pin Euro). What I'm not sure of is were the sensors working properly BEFORE I fitted the new kit. They certainly didn't work either before or after the re-Coding for the Trailer kit.

Now what to do next - the manufacturers of the wiring (Right Connection) say that their equipment couldn't have caused the problem BUT they suggest that an Battery Re-set is a way of restoring factory defaults !! :

quote: One thing you could try and it is not harmful to do, is a battery reset. This means removing the air-filter mounted on the rear right side of the engine compartment when looking from the front, and disconnect the battery earth for a few seconds. This tends to reset all the car settings to default so this may have that effect? BEFORE you do this, please check with the service department of your local dealership to check if a battery disconnect will not cause any problems

I'm not sure if it's wise to do this, hence one of the reasons for asking on this forum!!

The other reason is have any of you out there any better or alternative suggestions :)

BTW I'm loving the car and it goes really well and it tows like a dream so generally I'm really pleased except for this issue :)

Thank sin anticipation

Jim

I cannot see an reset working on this, I think the car should be plugged into STAR where the rear sensors can be checked

Hi

Had my 2010 C250 GCI Sport estate since June and just before the 3 year warranty expired, the rear parking system started playing up.

It goes straight to the double red LEDs and beeps for about 2 seconds (even when there's nothing near the back of the car), which according to the manual, is either dirty sensors or a fault. Switching the system off then on, gets it going again, but only for a short while.

I notified the dealer, as I have been waiting for a tailgate wiring harness clip (on back order), and they said they will have a look when it goes in (this Monday - 12th Aug) under warranty.

I will let you know what they come up with.

Regards
Phil

Thanks Phil,

How do you switch it off on on again? I've tried taking the fuses out and putting them back ( three pin reset :) )

Hi Jim

I only switched on/off using the button on the dash. Car was in the dealers today and they say one of the sensors is duff. As these are on the lower rear bumper "valance" and therefore painted dark grey "plastic" colour, they have removed the offending item. They are ordering a new one and will get their body shop to paint it with the correct match etc.

So I am still without working rear sensors for now, until they get this sorted. Good news is that it's all FOC.

The only niggle I now have is that I also mentioned that I found some water in the spare wheel well. I queried if the "bung" beneath the spare should have a hole in it. Expecting that they would do a water test to check for leaks, I was miffed to be told "yes, the "bung" should have a hole, so there's no problem"!!!! "There's no water in the boot now". "I know there's not, coz I dried the bleeding thing" (In a Bazil F accent)

So I asked where was the water coming from? They said that it was not unusual for some water to get in e.g. if you hosed the car down!!!! I said "funny how all the cars I've had over manyyyyy years have not done the same (including my old C270)"? "Well, if you want us do a water test, we will need it in for a few days".

God, give me strength! Better still, give me a bleeding hosepipe and I'll do it myself!

Suggestions on a beer mat please.

Phil

Hi Phil

Thanks for that , I have found my problem - a dirty contact on the connector twix the rear sensors and the car , just under the plastic cover inside the boot :)

Hope you get yours sorted as easily

Cheers

Hi Jim

Car back in today to have duff sensor replaced - all seems to be okay now and was done FOC (reported just as 3 yr warranty expired - but in theory, would have been covered under dealer's 1 yr used car warranty anyway).

Hi Jim, I have exactly the same problem as yours. I want to try the fix that worked for you. Can you help me to locate where the faulty connector is located (maybe a photo should help) ? Do I have to remove the rear bumper or is it accessible from the boot ?

I'll let you know if it works also for me.

Thanks, Arcangelo

Hi Arcangelo
It was quite a while ago now and I can't remember exactly where the dodgy connector was ( I've had a few connector issues over the past few years with the rear lights and indicators and my memory is getting worse with age :) ) but I believe that it's either the one in the boot (in the pare wheel well). I seem to remember some connectors behind the rear valance as well but taking that off is a bit of a game, you might get a hand and light behind to see perhaps.
cheers
Jim
