OK.... I give up!

went to put something in the boot of the SL last night and sitting on the boot floor was a Black plastic fitting. It must have fallen off part of the boot lid or roof mechanism but I have just spent an hour examining the boot and roof mechanism in daylight and can't for the life of me work out where it has come from.

I tried google with the part number 9 918 0 02601 00 but that comes up empty and the part also has an R on it so I assume it is fits on the Right side but I can't find anything similar on the Left.

If any R230 owner has any idea where this belongs, please, please, please put me out of my misery.​

Yep... Stopped the roof half way so I could look at the roof mechanism

Well just spent another hour trying to work out where the piece came from with no success. Even got the wife to have a look and see if there was anything obvious that I had missed. Her considered opinion was... if it works without it, you don't need it

Are you certain it is off the car , the reason i ask is that i thought that all the body part numbers start with the model designation so anything from your car should start with A230 ?

Probably no help but they don't all look like zeros, one is thinner so there's either one letter O and 3 zero's or 3 O's and one zero.

The majority of parts do start A230 but there are bits that don't. I've not had anything in the boot apart from the car cover and a large lump of memory foam so unless it has been sitting trapped somewhere and hidden for months and has now dropped onto the floor of the boot, it must be from the car. The date mark also looks like it was manufactured in Feb 05 which is in keeping with a September 05 car.

Funny you say that... I have just been in my shed/workshop checking the wind deflector which I removed a few weeks ago as I thought it might have come from that but cant see anywhere it would fit.

You may be right John. I may have to concede defeat although I cant for the life of me work out how it got there or what it is from.

Perhaps the January competition could be "name that part"
