Do I really have to remove the rear view mirror and drop the whole OHP off just to change the bulbs or is there an easier way, obvious to everyone but me

I know it's an easy 2 min job but ..

Nothing in the manual regarding the OCP Malc. I have seen the instructions for dropping the OCP on Bayhas. Simple enough.

Just seems ridiculous to have to do that to change a bulb!

Do the covers not pop off using a trim tool (or flat screwdriver with a bit of elec tape round the end)?

I agree I would have thought that the lens would come off, as I sit here even if you remove the whole thing it will not give access to the bulbs.

I will take a look in wis, and the epc.

How stupid, nothing in WIS so it has to come out.

I would also have thought the lens would pop off.

I only gave it a quick look over whilst I was doing another job and I didn't have my trim tools to hand.

I'd rather ask and look daft than dig in and damage something. That would be actually daft!

Is Item 130 not the cover that would pop off?

I ran a fingernail around the lens and didn't feel any gap/slot/notch as one would expect.

Is Item 130 not the cover that would pop off?

Possibly. Like I say, it's not immediately obvious. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Can't be the first person to bump up against this.

I'll take some pics and post up when I find the blindingly obvious and simple solution! Might help someone else in the future.

Just had a look. The lens sits in the trim, I can see the lip of the lens through the semi translucent trim, when the lights are on.

The cover for the ultrasonic detector comes off as does the tops of the map light switches.

Everything else seems only accessible from the top. It's dark, it's a first world problem and I have homeland and the walking dead to watch!

After an odd week including a trip to A&E and the worst 'Flu I've had in a long time I decided to have another look at the OHCP

Following the instructions on the Bayhas site I dropped the OHCP and found I was right:

To change the bulbs you have to dismantle the whole thing! Madness!

Word of warning for anyone reading this who wants to do the same:

The blue thing, bottom right in the picture, is for a ribbon cable. Be vary careful not to snap that when dropping the OHCP

You will need to insert a small screwdriver in the clip to unclip the ribbon cable so have one to hand.

Tuck the ribbon cable safely out of the way.

To put the rear view mirror back on you will need a large screwdriver or similar.

Locate one side of the spring clip on the top of the mirror bracket in either side of the slot above, press hard with
a screwdriver on the other side and it should pop back in.

Hope this is of use to someone. Massive faff but the front of the E Class is now lit with nice crisp white LED lighting :)
