Hi, looking to get a paint protection kit/detailing done on a new E class. I had a Supaguard pack done on a new CRV I bought the wife probably 8 you are ago. It made the car super shine and a dream to wash and clean. Is this still an option or is there something better on the market now?

Any advice appreciated.

It is still highly rated, I believe that John (developer) had his car done.

Developer actually had his done with Gtechniq Malcolm.

Having seen it, it's something I'd certainly consider, though I do still like polishing the car, find it therapeutic somehow...

SupaG is not worth the cost. A proper detail lasts longer and is more effective.

television ??? When I stopped work in the sound business in 1996 I hit on a brain wave to make loads of money, it worked and I was on some television forums, I bought a Mercedes SL back in 2005 and wanted some information, I never got a reply :( but saw there were a few threads on electrics with wrong or no replies ans it all went from there.

The other thing is that you can google user names and get lots of information on a member, try googling television and you will never find me. :D

Indeed - they are applying it to my new Disco but I'm not paying for it. This car will be driven by the wife and washed by the illegals so there is no point putting expensive polish on it. The interior protection is worthwhile but so is scotchguard.

Hello Lennox, re Gtechniq.

if done properly you end up with this, and it's a doddle to rinse over and return to this finish, time after time:

^^^ Seconded. It makes washing the wheels much easier too. The Phantom produces a lot of brake dust and I still only need plain water a year later to clean the wheels.

Gtechniq will last far longer than Supaguard and will protect your car much better. Gtechniq or Supaguard needs to be applied to properly prepared paintwork which has been thoroughly cleaned, decontaminated and polished thoroughly. Only then will you get the best from any protection on it. Time restraints at dealers mean that this isn't done as well as it should be because it takes hours and hours, which they just don't have.

Stunning..... If the E350 goes well I can see an E63 sitting on the drive in two years....

So to prep it when I get the car.... What's the process. I don't have a garage I can put it in. (garage has been converted into a gym/man cave.....)

Saying that my dads got a huge carport so I can get it in there... But it's going to be cold...

1. Wash with a Gtechniq shampoo
2. Dry
3. Clay bar? Needed on a new car?
4. Polish with Gtechniq
5. Gtechniq sealer?
6. Wheels sealed with Gtechniq

please shed some more light on this, is it like glass or nano coating lasting 10 years or is it like a sealant lasting 1 year?

the half shot on the previous post is due to paint correction compound and glaze rather than actual coat or sealant itself, as far as i know its merely paying for long life protection or rather a regular detail offers as much a slick surface though lasts less

please enlighten me as its something new for me:)

Beautiful car!
To be honest I dont rate super guard at all. Its a minor product, sealant based and similar to most x polymer bonding products. Gtechnic is a different league altogether the same as C Quartz, TAC Systems etc. Infact Gtechnic C1, C4 and C5 paint, trim and wheels are intact al the same product just labelled differently in different bottles. Ive regularly coated a whole car in wheel protection and protected wheels with trim care. Its well known and publicised and not a knock on the product, its just helpful to know incase you run out of one, you can just use another.

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
SupaG is not worth the cost. A proper detail lasts longer and is more effective.

I've had both Supagard and GardX on cars I've owned.

My dad had Supagard on the last car he kept for a long time. At 12 years old, the car was still totally immaculate (perhaps the 48,000 total miles helped there) and only needed a rinse off, never polished.

I doubt very much if a proper detail would do that after 12 years no matter what product you used.

I do think however these products are best applied to a brand new or very recent car - their effectiveness on a 4 or 5 yr old car would be reduced for sure - although I agree that a good detailer should be able to get one of those back to (almost) new condition?
