My R230Sl had the issue whereby both red bars on the display would light accompanied by the irritating Beeeeeep even when no where near any obstacles. Even if you turned the sensors off via the switch they would turn themselves back on at varying times along with the red bars and beep as before.
The previous owner was aware and supplied me with a new sensor at the time of sale. He had star diagnosis to indicate the faulty sensor. I replaced and all was well for a thousand or so miles.
A similar issue has now returned after driving for the first time in heavy rain conditions at speed. Having read other threads it's no doubt related to this. Any tips for drying things out? Or has possibly another sensor failed or the control unit itself?
I should perhaps add that now the beep occurs routinely immediately the car is put into drive from the park position and I have to turn the sensors off manually to silence them.
Thanks if you can assist,
Martin

I have this issue on mine as well. Im sure the seals have gone somewhere.

When it dries out, they start functioning again.

If the sensor supplied to you was new, its likely another one has the same failure, and will need star to pinpoint which one it is.

Thanks for this. The sensor I took off still looks to be pretty waterproof but heh--this is a mercedes :-( -- so no suprises really. Car is garaged but has been out in the heat just the once, [I was hoping the fine weather would do the trick!!

I had to change all four rear sensors. They were all bad.

I tend to own older cars and the SL is the first to come equipped with P. Sensors, are they known to be unreliable? do other brands regularly cause problems?

Had a Beemer earlier. Never a problem with the PDC, lots of other though... Get the sensors from ebay.
