Occasionally when I drive off, I get a picture of a car, and three people on the display.

This disappears quite quickly after about 100 yds.

Any ideas as to what it means.

This happens with both with only myself in the car, or myself and my wife.

.
Rear passengers' seatbelts are unfastened.
Goes away after 30 seconds or 5mph (or is it 5 km/h?).

I get the same...
Always thought it was to do with the seat belts, I'll have a look at mine closely in an hour or so, you've got me curious!

It is showing you which rear seats are occupied. If all 3 are unoccupied they are all greyed out but if any seat has someone on it that seat position will be in bold.

They are in bold, with no one sat in the seats.

If you have shopping/laptop bag/ books etc on the seats, the microswitches will see it as a 'person' in the seat.....

It's just the car checking for the presence/absence of passengers in the back and is normal.

Try putting your wife in the back with no seat-belt - one should turn red at start-up.

Probably the driver!
