R129 independent specialist needed

Hello Everyone,

I have just bought a US version 1990 500SL online.
One owner from new, 51k in the clock.
I'm looking for an independent specialist in North London (+100 miles) area.

- Hydraulic roof needs full repair
- One window and one seatbelt not working
- Driven 500 miles in the past 7 years so all fluids, brakes etc. have to be checked, replaced.

Finally got my R129 (a 2001 SL500) and got a few (hopefully small) issues.
Any independent R129 specialists in SW London/Surrey area please?
I went to the R129 shop in Kent (very knowledgeable) , but a bit far for me.
Any suggestions?

PS. What is a yellow engine warning on the board? I was told that is to do with the fuel quality. The last garage cleared the warning, but after a few miles is coming back. Should I be worried?

What is the symbol for the warning?
It won't be fuel quality.

It is the engine symbol (the furthest to the right of the board display). When I finish work, will take a picture and attach it. Thank you.

The only way to accurately see what is is to get it scanned by a Star kit.

Where would I find an independent specialist with this Star kit? Should I just call around and see if they have it?

PS. Based on the reassurances that is nothing to worry, I drove the SL for 1500 miles but now I am back home and ready to look at the problem.

North London your best bet would likely be Wayne Gates in Harrow.
Further out is Welwyn Merx or you could go west and try getting it seen by Star in Caversham. I personally use @star and find them excellent.

It depends where in London you live. The excellent Prestige Car Service in Horndean:-

is only abort an hour (48 miles) from Esher, if you live in Epping it's not an easy drive.

You need to pin it down a bit better - there are places near London in Kent,….but if you live the other side of London, it’s probably not much good for you.
