CPS replaced, now there is no signal or power to the throttle actuator.

Help. These are expensive.

thanks malcolm, apparently it was doused in WD40 and hasnt caused any problems since. im going to take it apart when i'm next down at the parents and check everything on it etc to see if i can clean up anything on it. it took quite a bit of testing to find it out, and its had the throttle body replaced - ive got a receipt for a second hand part.

what does this do?

It accounts for the fueling and throttle, so you press the throttle pedal, and this is known as a "fly by wire" device that is actuated, to control the speed of the engine

so this is in addition to the throttle body physically opening? is it part of the cruise control too? and ASR?

Right, lumpy running is markedly better but it still stalls and misfires. If you'll the throttle it seems to clear it. Taken throttle actuator motor unit off and tested the latency of the wiring and it seems fine. Evidence of rubbish wiring though. I'll post some pictures of it in a bit

Most faults on these things are where the carbon wheres off on the potentiometer tracks

Yeah, that's the US though. I'm in the UK. I'm still looking at this I just havent had chance to sort out anything more due to other distractions. I'm currently using a 124 OM606 until I work out what to do. I'm still confused as to why this started happening after I replaced the caps, rotors, spark plugs and oil filter.

I'd still be suspicious of the wiring harness. The two most frequent failures are the injector harness (includes camshaft sensors) and throttle body harness.
The insulation goes hard over time and eventually cracks and falls off.
Once a wire is disturbed it will never recover as the insulation will have fallen off.

The wires to the MAF plug suffer badly as all heat top rear of engine.

I've not used them but for wiring looms and throttle bodies Sileck in Kent have a good reputation.

They'll copy your existing loom and rewire throttle bodies.

10 day turnaround and (from memory) £320 for the injector loom and £45 for the TB loom (all plus VAT).

Got a busy January, going to try and source a known good item and see if a swap sorts the problem when I can. Then I'll know what it is.

Good used looms are very rare. If you can find an updated Delphi one this is your best bet.
Look @ the top of the loom, should be a label with a part number and date. If the date of the loom is between 1992 & 1996 it's suspect. Phone the parts dept @ an MB dealer, they'll be able to give you original and updated part numbers.

If you suspect the loom open it up looking for cracked insulation, it'll be worst where it gets hot around the injectors and sensors. Throttle body wiring should be checked at the same time.

I'm doing a throttle actuator first. The wiring is bad on the two crank sensors but they aren't the culprit of the poor running. The star machine said no voltage from the throttle actuator motor. If I get another known good one of those and it's still doing it then I'll have the wiring to it reconditioned. Then get the injector loom done at a later date. If nothin works then I'll eventually have the injector lion replaced. And if it still does that I'll set fire to it and drive it off a cliff like in death becomes her. Lol
