Ok, I need to get one more reading, however with the mains connected the camera is receiving 4 volts. With the power from the reverse lights it is receiving only 0.6V.

I need to check the volts coming to the reversing lights. 2mins :)

Ok, the reversing light is showing a voltage of 10.26V.

Me thinks the wire connecting to the camera is damaged or too thin and is not carrying enough current?

They only draw milliamps unless the camera has a fault, that could be tested on your TV with a 12v power supply

Good idea i will have to test the camera.

I meant the wire from the reversing lamp to the RCA connector. It is fairly thin, thinner than the wire I have from maplins.

If the camera works, what do you think?

If the camera works in the house, then just that cable, you can test that on the meter inner to inner must have a circuit, nothing from outer to inner

If the wire is at fault, how can I make a new one?....can the camera ever receive too much voltage if I use the wrong thickness of wire from the reversing lights?

Surely the camera is not at fault if it works with the AC current from the house mains?

If it works from the adapter in the house then its fine, that just leaves the cable.

You cannot give too many volts, and yes the power cable need not be very thick

It is easy to make a new wire

Ok, if I use a wire that is as thick as the wire coming from the reversing lights should this be okay?

I would like to use the following wire:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/equipment-wire-16-0.2-6197

It is slightly thicker than the wire supplied with the camera.

The camera only draws milli amps, but you can change it if you wish too, but I doubt that this is the problem

Oh really, interesting. What do you think the problem is?

We know that when the camera had 4V running to it, it worked. When it has 0.62V it didn't work.

You a more experienced in electronics....am I looking in the wrong place?

0.62 is only half a volt, so no real power getting to it, do re check the ground negative lead, that needs to be a good connection

No worries, you have helped extensively!!!

Right, I think I made a very bad error.

When I cut the reversing wire, I used a household connector to connect the camera wire to the reversing wire.

I decided to take it off and twist them all together, ready for the solder tomorrow.

Hey presto the camera works, volts reading around 10.24V.

However, I had a spare camera which is slightly bigger than the one I had fitted. The one fitted does not work :(, it is smaller and looks nicer. Looks like I will have to order another.

Should the household connector make a big difference?

Thanks Television :)

Talk in the morning.

Additionally, how do I get the image crisper? It looks a tad fuzzy.

Speak in the morning. :)

I would nee a picture to see what is making it fuzzy, could be camera or noise in the cables

Hi Television,

I will hopefully get one today.

Does the connector sound like it woud cause a problem or shouldn't it?

It is one that can be used to connect two wires and has two small screws.

Thanks

Not connectors, they either work or they do not, if better in the house then just the connecting lead but hard without seeing

OK, I will get my camera out.

Any ideas on how to repair the other camera? It is smaller and looks better on the car. IMHO
