Hi,

I have an A 160 Cdi (2005) at just over 90k miles. Engine light came on last week and my Indi garage hooked it up to diagnostics, says it was 2 glow plugs.

So, I left my car there last Tues and called them this morning, says there is a ‘big problem’ getting the glow plugs out. I asked when the car will be ready and he stated he cannot say.

I find it a bit odd that the garage can’t give an indication of ETA car ready. I do have a concern that they might have messed the cylinder head up and are not telling me. If that was the case (they have screwed cylinder head up) what is my legal standing?

Any input appreciated and TIA for same

If your concerned i would drop in to see what issue is and they might show you exactly whats wrong. Not uncommon for heater plugs to snap. Its all about how they are removed/repaired?

Its probably one of those dreaded things that will happen to a mechanic as he really can only charge for replacing the glow plugs. As long as they tried their best to loosen them properly by running engine to temp if possible and they are your regular garage I myself would expect to meet them maybe a little bit of the way if they have to call in a specialist to extract them. Thats totally up to yourself and the relationship you have with your Indie. Most decent garages will have their own method of extracting them if access is possible

Yes, I don't expect them to loose out & vice versa. I'll go speak to them
