I have sustained damage to my drivers side rear exterior door handle.
It now does not open the door from the outside, you have to release it from the inside which is tricky.

Anyone replaced one of these before? The local Mercedes Garage quoted me £250 for the part and about £200 to fit :( I cannot afford this, although someone damaged the handle when I was in the car I do not want to put it through my Insurance either...

Is it easy to replace ? Do I have to replace the handle or just the mechanism inside? Any help appreciated I have looked on youtube to see if there are any 'how to' videos but can't find any. My car is 53 plate.

Thanks for any assistance here. I tried to upload a picture but it does not like it!

Just one screw in the end of the door, under some trim, undo it and the handle is off it takes 10 mins max.

Thanks Television - is there anywhere that will show me where that screw is?
Will I need a special tool to get under the trim?
If I find out where it is, can anyone recommend a good supplier of internal door parts? Not sure what broke yet?

Thanks
Rebecca

Just pull away the rubber sealer in line with the door handle, you will see a hole, you will need a long torx driver, not sure of the size but about t20 and undo the screw till the end cover is loose and comes away then remove the handle.

It'll be similar to mine. See pics. Be careful that the screw doesn't fall into the door cavity when it's released. Remove the handle by gently pulling the rear of it away from the car body and sliding the whole thing backwards. There won't be any electrical connections on yours.

You may also have to remove a decorative cover (if fitted) on the trailing edge of the door to get to it.

Thanks Lexman, the screw is fixed on the 211 and no decorative cover, just the rubber seal to full back in line with the door handle

It was a bit more involved than you said to get to the handle in the end. Outside my capability for sure watched a local Merc garage guy strip off the inside panel and order the bit that broke....

Thanks for your suggestions Television & Lexman8

BTW, I found this really useful in removing the handle from my W212 E class. I took pics and will upload into the DIY section later this week.

Hi Matt,

Did you manage to upload those pictures? My rear door handle stopped working and your pictures would be useful to fix it.

Many thanks.
