Rear lights problem

I have a 1995 CL500 with a strange rear light problem, all the rear lights work apart from the side lights and number plate lights, fuses 8-9 are the all ok and have been replaced. the side light bulbs look ok but have not been tested but assume ok.

Its a friends car and hes at work trying to fix it any ideas please.

Put a meter onto the connector that goes to the lights and see if there is any voltage there

will do Malcolm. Im going into Cambridge this morning to have a look, I will put a meter across the fuses first to see if there is a voltage there, I not aware of any control boxes or relays in this circuit or an I wrong.
