Good afternoon. Slight leak from my hardtop roof (92 SL300). The leak is the same either side- at the front where the roof meets with the top of the windscreen pillar. Any suggestions to a cure appreciated!

P.S. NO leaking from the softop!

Cheers.

Have you had any success curing this yet? I have the same problem on my 1994 SL280. Soft top is fine but the hardtop leaks. It drips from the top of the windscreen pillar. When driving in heavy rain it really leaks quite badly.

obviously a seal somewhere,

have you managed to ascertain exactly where theleak is from, is the leak where the glass meets the bodywork, or is it at bodywork-bodywork joint

just looked on wis and it mentions reparing leaks on these cars by using sealant 0039890171

doc 97-850 leak at windshield, rear window and side window, hard top.

The seals do wear out - you can use vaseline or a silicone product as a temporary measure. The windows can also be adjusted if they are not sealing properly. If the seal needs replacing it is all one piece and about £300 from memory.

Thanks guys, I think the leak is more at the bodywork side as it is watertight with the softtop up. Putting her in to my local specialist who has owned and worked on many SLs'. Will post a forum if sucessful remedy is found!

Fixed mine when it was stored vertically on the hardtop stand. There is a rubber seal glued to the inside of the roof, I re-glued this, at the pillar ends, from inside with an excess of windscreen silicone and then IMMEDIATELY refitted the hardtop to the car to squeeze out excess. Excess is not visible when roof hardtop is on as it squeezes out to the inside. No leaks so far this year.
