Sat nav SD CARD for 2015 c class

I recently got a C200 SE 2015 as company car, but came with no sd card for the sat nav, i have bought a second hand one just to try out it was the correct age 2015/16 version, but wondered before putting in the car, if its not suitable, will it just bring a message up on screen telling me this or will it mess anything else up on the car??
i have been told by a couple of independent dealers that wont but have also been told could too, so just wanted to check
