Have you spoken to Mercedes.. I have heard of people getting replacements here in the U.K.. the item has a 25 year warranty and this is sometimes honoured, but only some dealers. Seems to be dependant on the codes and iirc, Sandown group replaced one recently. Worth a call or two atleast..

I had my SBC pump fail and was lucky enough to find a new old stock one for about £350 which I then fitted myself.

Fitting is easy with only the bleed procedure requiring special tools and STAR.

An easy job to do within a half day for a half competent mechanic.

A quick look on eBay pulls up a number of rebuild services but before using them I would ask what they do. The usual cause of failure is the brushes in the pump motor wear out. Again this can be DIYed but is fiddly. Some 'rebuilds' merely reset counters. Others do it properly and repair and replace worn parts but it's hard to know which do what.

You could consider a used pump but that will have an unknown lifespan. Typically pumps fail at 80-120k miles so any pump with that mileage is largely worthless. If a pump with 50k on it were available at the right price it's worth considering.

If peace of mind is important then the sensible option is a Bosch refurbished pump or new MB one.
Lucky guy to find a brand new old stock one. There was a gentleman who did have stock and sold this all off to another company. He was based in Norfolk I think. Maybe worth a call to see whom he sold all of his stock too, if we have his number still. I will do some digging.

New MB pumps are nolonger available (I will have another look on the net though) as MB only offer Bosch refurbished pumps which come in at £3100 incl VAT excl. fitting. from MB.
Independants are £2500 but wont necessarily source from Bosch direct, so the ones they source its hard to know where they originate from etc..
Ebay - I have a taken a look and agree with what you wrote above "its hard to know which do what"

And yes I want peace of mind.

At the moment, we don't have a diagnosis...I had the same dilemma, so took y Vito to my local main dealership,{ before I invested in a Launch X431 pro scanner}, they put their computer on it,in static mode, and diagnosed a new ABS pump. Which I subsequently proved the pump was fine, after I refitted the pump, they still insisted the pump was faulty....they spent further hours in a static mode doing checks...it wasn't until they took it on a road test and they did some dynamic data streaming to identify incorrect ABS sensors fitted. So I would suggest you get them to do road test so they can see what is happening.
How long have you had the SBC light on?
That's interesting.

So far they have the car in with them and are running tests, so I am in waiting mode. I hope to hear back from them today and will update.

Thank you : )

I know the US has the 25 yr warranty and not the UK. I am sure there are some really lovely guys at dealerships, and as you say depends what fault codes come out of the diagnositics, so ...until I have these.

As mentioned in Post#6, get in touch with this guy.

If your local Mercedes specialist can remove the pump and send it to John at ECU repairs (in Basingstoke now I believe) you should get a refurbished pump back which your specialist should be able to refit and bleed.

Unfortunately, if your specialist happens to be a main dealership, they won't fit refurbished ABS pumps, as I nearly found out to my cost.

Ironic really when the main dealers fit refurbished pumps themselves. Bosch haven't made new pumps for years. They are all refurbished.
To be clear, my post #25 above I meant an independent Mercedes specialist, not a main dealer.

Edit Just noticed you are talking about ABS pumps. The OP has an SBC pump fault.
Two completely different parts.

So an update:

I have just collected her and she is back on the road.

The SBC was replaced under warranty by MB as goodwill (otherwise just the part £2500+VAT from Bosch) excl. fitting. And the breakline on the right rear was replaced too due to errosion.

The Sandown Basingstoke Mercedes dealership have been just amazing and I didnt think this SBC replacement might have been done under MB warranty. She is polished and looks brand new.

A great Friday!

Thank you!!

I did talk to a lovely gentleman at Sandown and as you wrote it is dependant on codes. We took her to the Sandown Mercedes Benz dealership and they ran diagnostics and in a few days they confirmed that MB would replace her under warranty with a genuine Bosch refurbished SBC unit as goodwill!

We collected her today and the SBC is now replaced, the right rear breakline renewed with a new run and she has been polished and looks brand new.

A really great friday and thank you for your suggestion!

A brilliant result. And a main dealership saved the day, in more ways than one.
Have a good weekend and now you can enjoy many miles of driving your Mercedes Benz.
