Scrapping noise when going over speed bumps

Hi, I wonder if anyone could help or advise me over the last few days I’ve heard a noise when going over speed bumps sound like something is scrapping underneath the car it went away and the noise has come back but sounds a lot worse been trying to Google to see if anyone has dealt with this issue and what it could be seen a few people say its the sway bar links any thoughts please??? C class coupe 2016 220d AMG

Hello and welcome,

Best option is get it in the air and go around the suspension with a pry bar - assuming nothing is immediately visibly wrong.

Axle stands and a trolley jack will work, just be careful.

Is it a metal on metal scraping noise or does it sound like something dragging on the road hump..
Have you had a look underneath incase it is something there that shouldn’t be… otherwise as already mentioned

My CLS has plastic mud flaps about a third of the way down the car. These often scrape some of the more agressive speed bumps. As suggested, have a look undeerneath.

Worn drop links tend to knock when the car goes over uneven ground so it sounds as though it could be prop shaft of axle related you really need to get the car in the air and check everything including exhaust mountings, engine/gearbox mountings, suspension, steering the whole works

Hi I’ve had that all checked when I first had the noise come it was checked all ok at the time they said if it get worse then bring it back got it booked in at the mechanics Wednesday morning but was wondering if it was anything I could see and do my self e.g grease any bearings

Hi mate, I wouldn’t say it’s a metal on metal noise but again I’m no mechanic it’s more of a scrapping noise to what I can hear.

Could be loose undertray on speed bump.

One thing is don’t straddle them, jackets wheels, tyres and suspension putting all the weight on the unsupported inner rim of the wheels.

My 212 E350CDI Sport catches the speed bumps on occasions, the set up is correct.

Hi all,
Just spoke to someone who’s knows a thing or to about cars when pushing down on the front end of the car you can here on passenger side a noise he thinks it might be a top end strut mount if that makes any sense

No mate just checked seems fine no movement anyone from Wolverhampton on here that could take a look and see what they think?!
