The remote boot lid button on my 2011 SL 350 is unresponsive when I try to close it.
It will open remotely from the key fob and will close using the button on the driver's door panel.

It has just stopped closing using the red button in the photo.

has anyone had this issue?

I've had this - it was one of the wires (go down the right hand side strut) had broken inside the insulation. Took a while to find it - fixing it was easy with a extra piece if wire soldered in. If you can somehow hold the button with one hand and start bending the wires (near the elbow joint) with the other if it's the same fault it will suddenly shut - you have found the fault

Many thanks. Will take a look. Should I rule out a fuse issue given that it still operates using the key fob and the in-door button?

Having had 3 SLs, I would rule nothing out from experience, but logic says it is likely to be the wiring

So. After much contemplation and negotiating with various auto-electricians to visit and diagnose, I ended up taking the car to the local German auto specialist. Initial thought was that it was a failed "boot handle" (ie the flap that your put your fingers under to open the lid manually) which was not reverting to its base position after the boot was opened with the remote key.

Hence the car was thinking that the boot was in fact, already closed. The engineer suggested a new boot handle mechanism but I would have to source separately as Merc do not now list this part.

However, on manipulating the boot handle a couple of times lever, the button suddenly activated and the lid closed electrically.

A few sprays from the famous blue and yellow can and it is now working perfectly so must have got furred up and jammed.

[£460 plus VAT saved I am told.]

That said, the right front cornering light bulb had failed and given the headlamp needs to come off to change it, this was not an uncostly visit.

You live and learn! ;)
