A freind has asked me to find out when the sl 60 was produced, because he was told that they were produced for one year only ie 1996 in a limited number is this correct or can you add your comments.

SL60 AMG

Unless I am mistaken (if I am I am sure another reply will spring up!) the SL60 was a bespoke conversion by brabus, not by MB.
Have a look at www.brabus.com

Hi SL60s were produced from 1993 to 1998 - total production was 1000 cars, of which arounf 180 were RHD. The car was being produced before Merc bought AMG so it left the factory as a partly built 500 and was shipped across the road where it was breathed on. Although Ive owned one for nearly 5 years, Ive only even seen 2 others in the UK so they are a rare site - and lovely, understated car. By the way its a normally aspirated 5.98 litre pushing out an "official" 385 BHP, 4 less that the V12....but that was because AMG wasnt allowed to produce a more powerful car than Merc so "unofficially" its reconned to be about 400BHP...oh yes and its nearly 200 Lbs lighter so just a tad faster too!

I'm sure I read in Mercedes Enthusiast that there were only 50 or so SL60's sold in the UK.....could be wrong though.

They're also lower geared than the 600, so helps acceleration even more. There's are a few around, there's at least 3 in Guildford to Sunningdale area & always well kept by "proper" enthuiasts. Keep hold of it!
