Right lads just A quick one? The four silver relays under the steering column on my 1979 slc 450, does one of these have anything to do with the fuel pump? If I take A cable from the battery terminal and put it on the phase of the fuel pump will this tell me if the pump works or not?
Just like to add she was left standing for seven years and built up a bit of rot but as the fuel pump does not sound like its kicking in on turn of ignition I decided to pour a bit of juice down the throttle bodie and she started on the key after seven years??

Would the fuel pump be most likely knackerd or blocked fuel lines after being standing?
Cheers

450 slc fuel

Hi;

I also have A 1979 slc 450; AND DURING THE LAST MONTH HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.

My suggestions( indemnified from all consequences) would be to drian all fuel you have in the tank. You will find at the outlet of the fuel tank a connection ; take this out and you will see filter sock; it is probably clogged.Clean it carefully; or if cost is not an issue; replace it.This was the case (clogged)on my vehicle. Then flush the fuel dampner; fuel storage reservoir.Change the fuel filter.

Also remember to open the fitting at the fuel inlet to the injection distributor. You will find a small sieve there; make sure it is clean.

I am sure you will have no problems after doing this routne service.

REMEMBER TO TAKE FULL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH FUEL: DO NOT TAKE CHANCES AND WORK IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA.WEAR GLOVES; GOGGLES ETC.

Good luck; and keep us advised of outcome

regards
collin

today I run a cable from the positive on the battery to the positive on the fuel pump, No noise from the fuel pump but A knocking noise from the engine as if it was trying to start? and also one of the four relays under the drivers footwell started humming? it was the top left relay if thats any good.

Is the fuse box for the fuel pump sitting on the passengers wing above the power steering hoses?

Cheers

I did say that you should not run a cable back to the pumps as other components can be damaged.

If you want to run a lead to the pump (s) take the existing leads off first, the pumps should run with 12v direct to them

All sorts started happening. Still the pump should be buzzing if I put A feed down to it? So I'm thinking pump is knackerd. I also split the pipe that connects the pump to the filter to the other pump?

I have had A good old sniff round the engine and cannot find any fuses or relays for the fuel pump?

Cheers Sean.
