I did notice that Alex as it was interesting to me, also I saw that the drivers seat is done with 2 resistors so you have the 2 values

My car was built June 1998.

My understanding was that the 3rd wire is for the baby seat recognition sensor.

when was it registered. do you have the 'airbag off' lamp.

yes, 3x wire version is just easy way to identify it has ACSR (auto child seat recognition).

the (very discreet) airbag off lamp merely refers to the passenger airbag, and is confirmation that diddums in a MB rear facing seat is not going to be killed by kindness, as the passenger airbag will not go off - it is correctly referred to as 'N72e1 automatic child seat recognition warning lamp'

have a look at the yellow connector under the seat, has it got 3x or 2x wires?
have you got the 'airbag off' lamp in the lower control panel?
drive at low speed with seatbelt disconnected - do you get a seatbelt warning?

if the answers are 2x wires, no and no then your plan is fine.

3 wires (yes)
airbag off lamp (yes)-next to window switches
seatbelt Warning (no)

Is it possible the previous owner disconnected the seatbelt warning? or somehow messed about with the system?

how can i find out if there actually is a seatbelt warning system?

as i said, drive it at eg 20mph without wearing your seatbelt.

naturally the danger of being prossecuted or hurt in an accident is to be considered before doing this.

Hi
I just joined this forum and this is very interesting. I don't find where the resistor should go. If it is a 2 wire should it bridge the wires or should it go to earth. If it is 3 wires between what wires should it go.

I have a w163 2002 ml 270 cdi fl.

I to have a w210 face lift and the little yellow light by the electric window switches is on eg passenger airbag is off! And also I dont have any seat belt warning light or sound. Anyway can someone tell is there a easy way to bypass this as like others I wont be putting a babyseat in the car and I am diy novice!

Seems abit extreme to put the car on STAR when all I want is someone to tell me how to bypass the seat occupation sensor! so that the airbag will work. I dont want to spend loads of money and take seat out etc when like so many other people I wont have a babysit in the car. So is there a simple way or not I guess that is the question?

In my opinion only; If the airbag indicator is saying the the airbag is off, then it sounds like you could have a fault rather than just a problem with the seat pad. I can't imagine that if no-one sits in the passenger seat that the car will show that the air bag won't deploy, never seen that . I suggest that you perhaps have the car connected to some kind of diagnostic device to check that there are no faults... Someone local might be able to do that for far less than a full STAR diagnostic.

There is a way to bypass the seat sensor but bypassing it whenever someone is sitting in the seat the srs control unit will not recognise this and in the event of an accident the airbag will not go off.
