Some nasty person has stolen my MB bonnet emblem (CLK230 2000 reg). I've seen various priced replacements on the web - anyone got a suggestion for the best one to go for and, perhaps, more importantly, whether there is a way to prevent it being nicked in future?

Hi and welcome. From what I recall main dealer prices arent too bad (especially if you phone Grangemouth MB and mention you're from here).

Normally they won't come off unless the bonnet is open.

I don’t get how they got it off then, unless they broke it off? I think it was when it was parked at a railway station car park...

I'm assuming you mean the gunsight style? They have a locking collar underneath. Usually when they get stolen they get broken off.

Yes, the standup star is what has gone...I guess they must have broken it off then.

at least if you club some A/H who deserves it , plod might turn up, prob to arrest you !!! a calm approach will just get from plod,"sorry no resources,or "call yr insurers " thats exactly what they told me after some other A/H threw a shopping trolley thru my back window on a astra i was using 4/5 yr ago. now i keep a baseball bat in the boot. as , plainly plod has said its "my problem" not theirs..

If they took the gunshight, they must have snapped it off at the base. To take the whole part without any damage to the car they must have opened the bonnet to unlock the collar at the base.

They are about 29 ponds from the dealer. Ask the dealer to fit it because the collar needs a special tool, although you can do it with Pliers. If you turn the collar a fraction too much, you will break it and need to buy the part again. Plenty of vids of youtube. the job at the dealers should take no more than 30s.

However 'calm' your approach might be, plod will arrest you if you take a baseball bat to anyone. Carrying an offensive weapon is quite serious, using one is the short route to prison. A £29 emblem is not worth it.

I remember watching one of those TV programs talking about moped thieves (as in gangs using mopeds and scooters to commit crimes). One gang hit a jewellers and the owner ran after the thieves with a baseball bat and had to explain to police that it was in the shop "for the staff party when they played rounders.. " (yeah......)

just bought it...was taking it indoors when some errant youths attacked me... could,nt sleep.remembered leaving it in car went to get it.. POINT is not the £27 or £100, but what are we going to do about it, continue to be victims? my father in law has had his wing mirrors ripped off a number of times and his car keyed outside his house on at least 2 occasions, once catching the offender ,called police police took kid away, was back on same street same afternoon. WHAT is going to get done about it. call yr insurers just ups the premium for all.calling police seems a complete waste of time..people who behave and continue to behave in this way become the harder criminals of later yrs.
i think they should be sentenced as adults , released ,then picked up on their 18th if thy can demonstrate that the interim has been used to get properly educated and a job ,good enough.if not they get put in for the original sentence . i am getting on a bit, but have on a number of times dealt with these matters the old fashioned way ,some dont understand anything else...

The old "Why is an idiot like a computer jokes..."

(Because you have to punch information into them).

Why is an idiot not like a computer?
Because with a computer you normally only have to do it once...

Just bear in mind if you carry a baseball bat it's a good idea to carry a baseball too, makes the company rounders game a bit more plausible.
