Just replace it with straight through exhaust tubing. it will be fine just as long as the Lambda Sensor didn't screw into the Cat.

Mine on my 2001 CLK320 were either stolen or removed by a previous owner and it goes fine and passed the MOT.

Yours will have 2 cats and it will be the secondary that was stolen (primary is buried up under the exhaust manifold).

On a 95 I'm pretty sure it will be a single cat which means it won't pass an MOT.

I bought (the garage supplied) an aftermarket cat for my 2003 Mercedes about 5 years ago, because the local garage said 'Mercedes cats are expensive'. The aftermarket cat was £300 and the fit was rubbish.

Imagine my surprise when the cat on the other side (V6) went a year later, and I enquired at my local Mercedes parts department and it was.....

£300 for a genuine item.

My recommendation is give MB Grangemouth parts department a call, mentioned that you are a member of this forum and see what price they can do for a genuine item. You might be surprised. I was.

Hi. Yes, I'm aware of that. In fact there is another one on the other side of the on in the photo so originally it had 4 Cats. The other Cats on on the Downpipes more or less.
I had a '94 (Prefix M) Jeep 4.0l and the Cat was rattling so I had the garage remove it. It still passed the MOT OK. And I tell you what, it went so much better after it was removed!!!

How long ago?
MOT regulations have tightened up over the past few years.
Technically if it looks like it's been removed or tampered with now it's a fail.

Sorry OP for the misfortune, did you report it to the police, Given what you have spent on the car and your concerns re insurance, maybe better to not get them involved (for the time being). Ask MB for the price of a new (ypu could be surprised), look on the likes of ebay for a replacement, but without being pradantic it may well also be a stolen one, so look for a car thats being broken, try an exhuast place, or the likes for of ECP for a higher branded one, an exhaise place may well have to do some welding depending on the cut of they dont want to do some welding they may ask that a section is replaced (also depending on how the cat is part of the system).
Good luck and keep your chin up, you are not responsible for these low lives!!

Thank you all, I will get this back on the road, but given the ULEZ regulations that are coming round the corner in London I think it'll have to be a semi-temporary solution.

Here's the damage:

The BM Catalytics replacement suggested earlier looks really cheap. I wonder if it's of acceptable quality, or will go through the next MOT?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233980869497

If the MB one is as reasonable as people have suggested it would make sense to order that though. It doesn't look like they've cut more of the exhaust than need be so hopefully a replacement cat can be easily dropped in without extra pipe welding. I'll investigate further after I finish my nightshifts. Thanks again

Good stuff OP. Do report it to the police. This crime is on the rise and if the police do investigate they usually look at CCTV in the area and may ask neighbours who have CCTV at home.
That said the scrotes are probably driving about in a stolen car with sets of plates in the boot.

please check the fuel line from tank has not been cut, that would be the only way to have the pump dry out.
please do this before putting fuel in.

If you still have the primary CATs in place then can't you just straight pipe the gap were the secondary CATs were?

An old B-Class.
That is terrible, pardon my ignorance but what do they do with stolen cat converters? Where are they used, is there an industry in UK or europe that is thriving on stolen converters?
There is a shortage of the rare metals they use in the converters so prices are very high at the moment > increasing the amount of theft.

Thanks, will check the fuel line when it's up on the ramp. I've got a quick question. The car is a W202 C 220, but I've found someone selling a cat from a
W202 C250 turbo.

Am I right in thinking it would have a bigger bore than mine or something and would not be suitable? Unfortunately I don't have the part number of the one that was taken from my car so can't check that. Anyone know?

Look on one of the many online parts stores and compare the part number is the simplest way. I doubt many have been in the situation so not an easy one to answer.
