temp gauge

Hi,
   i have a 1991 260e w124.On the temp gauge,what temp does the mark above 80 represent? is it 90 or 100.and what temp does the mark beneath 120 represent?
just like to know so i can work out the running temp of my car in traffic

sorry-meant to say what is the temp reading of the mark just above 80(there is only one marking between 80+120!)

Thats the 100 mark i think. Well at least it seems to be on my 190E, they say that the fan should click on at 100, and it usually does when the gauge is on or just above that line.

The marks are every 20 degrees.

The needle should sit around the 85-90 mark in normal use.
My car also goes to 100 in heavy traffic/fast driving etc then drops down to the mid 85-90 mark.

I think Andy put out a note about this a few weeks ago as if the temp is too low the engine will not be hot enough and use more fuel.

Seems to be that most of the MB's have the same temp gauges and specs. (E300D)
