Nice motor! Well into his Eighties and still got a lovely motor, and presuming still enjoying his motoring, if he wants a AMG badge on his car, so what! Think he deserves it. :)
He was quite frail looking and had a bit of a stoop so not exactly a boy racer. Very smart though and in expensive clothing :)

I'd hazard a guess, that badge, was on, when he got the car, and hasn't given it a second thought since, if indeed he ever did. :)

With a V8 under the bonnet signed by some German then I’d agree…;)

Sorry, Russ, we are never gonna agree on this, there seems to be a major hang up, about AMG badges on non AMG cars, what's the big deal, if for example they put a 6.3 Twin Turbo badge on a 220d
then yes I would agree, but an AMG badge on a Mercedes I don't see the problem. :)

It’s “all mouth and no trousers“ - most likely invalidates the insurance as an undeclared modification - and yes stickers are a notifiable mod…

Be happy with the car you have rather than trying to pass it off as something it’s clearly not. I’m all for personalisation if that’s your thing, but don’t try and make out you’ve a fire breathing monster when you’ve gone for the economy route of a 4 pot diseaseal…

Fair enough, Russ you've got your opinion and I've got mine, that's what forum's are all about, as long as it doesn't get silly (which it quite often does) then it's great. :)

Opinions are like backsides… everyone has one and they usually stink…:p

Alternatively if I wanted your opinion I’d give it to you…;):cool:

With the greatest respect to you Tony I do think that AMG badging on a non AMG is a bit juvenile :)

I don't get the point of misbadging. Who does it impress? Anyone that can appreciate an AMG will spot a wrong 'un instantly and probably have a snigger at it. Non enthusiasts won't even notice it. I prefer no badges to keep people guessing as well as other discrete mods - like in the late 70's when "Q" cars were all the rage. My 1760 Frogeye surprised a few people at the traffic light grand prix as did my mates similarly engined A30!

My 2 quid's worth is I'm no fan of making a car into something its not but regardless of whether it is an AMG or not but I actually think the AMG badges compliment the back of most Mercedes cars especially the old guys white one in a recent post. But thats as far as I would take rebadging on a Merc

If I ever get myself a proper ( as in E55 preferably) AMG, first thing I would be doing is removing all the AMG badges and popping an E320 CDi badge on it.

He probably isn't even aware it shouldn't be on there! I doubt he asked for the retro fitted badge.

This is not an MB but, there is a chap here that runs a 320d dressed as an M3. And the sad thing is, he doesn't tell anyone that it's a 320d. No different the Sierra Saphire GLS's going around looking like Cosworths's in the 90's.

An old B-Class.
IMO fake badging and de-badging (supposedly for a cleaner look) are both done for the same reason. Faking it.

AMG on non AMG trying to be something it is not.
Debadging - ditto usually done on a lower end model.

I really don’t like the SL400 badge on my car and think the rear would look a lot nicer without it. However, I have left in in place for the above reason.(My car being the lower end model of the SL range)

The previous owner purchased mine from the dealer, he asked them to de-badge. I'm in two minds, it might look to some that I've done this to hide the fact that is a diesel.

View attachment 78405 .

That's a really nice car, it has many advantages over an AMG. I do like them in White.

Round here no-one knows or cares what my SL63 is.

Some might know it is a Mercedes, but that's about it.

It looks pretty anonymous compared to, say, an orange Lambo. It does burble a bit though.
