The high level center brake light in my Vito 109 (2006/07)has stopped working.

I've removed it, but it looks like it isn't designed to open to replace the lamps - I'm guessing they're LEDs. My worry is that LEDs basically last longer than the vehicle can be expected to last; so what are the chances of the fault being somewhere else?

What's an easy and safe way to test the brake light assembly?

I can get a second hand unit for about £50 but I'd rather spend it down the pub.

Just connect it over a 12 volt battery, it will only work wired the correct way round.

OK, thanks. I'll give it a go...

Do you mean the battery in the vehicle? You sure it won't blow up or nowt?

Nothing can blow up, and yes car's battery. the high stop lamp is usually on a separate circuit.
